Usually this means that some application are taking a lot of resources out of your computer. It might also means that your hard disk is full of crap or that it is not well optimized. Have you ever tried to defragment it? Have a look at this article on how to degragment your computer quickly. Also how much RAM do you have? maybe you should buy some more RAM.
