I have a mesh elite computer running vista home premium and i cannot get the pc to hibernate, it will always reboot. Do i need to change some settings in the bios?, if so what? I have a Mainboard : Asus P5L-VM 1394
with american megatrends bios. Chipset : Intel i945G/GZ
Any help much appreciated.

As we all know, it's a free society & you can stand on your head to take a sip from your glass of water if you so desire, but on the flip side you don't need to....

Battery conservation is not an issue with desktops, therefore, hibernation is not that compelling a feature unless you have a notebook with severely limited battery capacity.

If you ask me, I would suggest disabling the feature altogether. Not only do you not have to worry about potential issues related to the feature, but you also get to unload the 4GB of HDD space that is allocated to hiberfil.sys.

To disable it, see below:

Method 1:

- Click Start, All Programs & Accessories.

- From the Accessories menu Right Click on the Command Prompt.

- From the drop down menu, Click on the Run Administrator option.

- The Command Prompt window will now open

- At the command prompt type: powercfg -h off & hit enter.

Method 2:

- Click on your Start menu

- Then type powercfg.exe /hibernate off in your search box & press Ctrl+Shift+Enter in order to run the command line typed as an administrator.

- With UAC enabled, you get prompted to approve the elevation of privileges & also get a quick flash of a command line window confirming your action.
