Comment:

I have been in correspondence with several Norton technicians since August 6, 2007 to try and resolve the problem I am having with my norton anti virus. Here is a summary of my my problem and the solutions various Norton technicians have suggested:
I had Norton 2006 installed on my computer. When I switched operating systems from XP to Vista I had to download a patch to fix the compatibility issues Norton had with Vista. The patch was the NV14RT patch from the Norton Antivirus web site. I recently both Norton Antivirus 2007 to renew my Antivirus subscription, but when I try to install NAV 2007 on my computer a message tells me that I need the NV14RT patch to install NAV 2007 on Vista, but I already have that patch downloaded. When I try to install NAV 2007 through the NV14RT patch the NV14RT patch will not allow me to enter a new product key to renew my subscription, even though my current subscription is expired. I contacted your tech support about this issue about two weeks ago, and they told me to download the NAV 2007.3 patch
from http://service1.symantec.com/Suppor... I did that but I still ran into the same problem where it will not allow me to type in the new product key, to activate the NAV 2007 product that I bought. I have even tried to download the patch from www.symantic.com/vistaupdate, but a message pops up and says the download is already complete. I have contacted tech support two more times regarding this issue and no one has replied to my E-mails, I have still not got this issue resolved and would like to be able to activate the NAV product that I purchased for my computer. Then the next technician I spoke to suggested the following: 'activate your product' or " Restore or use my subscription using my product key" under the support tab on the Norton screen, but there was no such tab on the Norton screen, so I was told to send them a screenshot of the norton screen, but I have not received a response to the e-mail with the screenshot attached. I have attached the screenshot to this e-mail in the hopes that someone can finally resolve this on going issue. I would like to finally get the norton product that I paid for to work on my computer. Since Norton's Technicians are useless I was hoping that some one here could get my Norton program installed. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Your link isn't working anyway. NV14RT patch has nothing to do with what you want accomplished. You need to visit and start with Norton Update Center for Windows Vista at the link below.

BTW ...

I have been in correspondence with several Norton technicians since August 6, 2007

You could have come here first. All support personnel working directly for - or under contract with - any corporation are forbidden from telling you anything that is not in the script assigned them. They will be fired automatically if they go beyond the script. Product support department everywhere today are literally run by lawyers who actually record everything said and exchanged.

"Since Norton's Technicians are useless"

... and so is their software (but that's just my 2 cents)

unfortunately, it would be a violation of the CN rules to assist in bypassing or overriding product activations.

i'm afraid your only hope is Norton's tech support since there's no way for us to prove the legitimacy of your claim.

Norton 2006 is not compatible with Vista, Norton 2007 and Norton 360 are. If Norton is not properly removed from the system then it may cause issues with 2007 version. My advice is to use the Norton removal tool on symantec's web site: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...

Next re-install the 2007 version.

For FREE Vista Security I use,
AVG Free
Windows Defender (Included With Vista)
Comodo Firewall Pro (Vista Version Available Soon)
Spyware Terminator

You can Find Links to these programs on my website at:

Once you remove norton from you system then reboot, and then remove using the removal tool, and then go into your registry and delete anything that has to do with norton, your firewall may not work if all these entries are not deleted.

Ditch Norton altogether.

Get NOD32 which is far better than any of the free programs. It's not expensive and runs on a very low profile.

I don't work for them or anything, but I do put them on every system I build and have never had a problem, even when I have users who have no clue as to what to stay away from on the internet.
