So I just recently lost my XP machine due to faulty hard drive.... Drivers installed and worked fine for audio. Now in Vista i have no sounds.... updated my realtek drivers for my mobo, and im tryin to use headphones. Nothing. I tried every jack in the back, but still nothing. no red X's, it says everything is working fine, the drivers show latest update, and when i hit the test button in the realtek window it shows that sound should be going through the speakers. The sound bar goes up and down like sound is coming out, but nothing. I even tried my buddies regular speakers, and still nothing. Any ideas?

You don't say whether you're on a dsktop or laptop but either way, if the system thinks that the sounds are playing but you're not hearing anything, then I'd suspect a hardware fault. If it's a desktop then try swapping out the soundcard. If it's a laptop, the only real alternative is a USB soundcard.
