Helo there my name is bradley and i will help you further
first i need to know what connection type it is weather it is LAN or wireless what make is it dell ect have you checked the device manager for errors are your drivers up to date do you have any cctv or any other recevers kiking you out of the connectio once i know this i can advise you how to fix it and get back on line and also have you done a ping test suggested 8 times ping google.co.uk -n 8 and what is the outcome of that i.e 100% loss or 75% whatever it may be let us know the findings and we can go from there

hey bradley
the connection is via LAN
it its a custom built computer msi motherboard- MSI k9n2 platinumi haven't checked to see if the drivers are up to date yet but if it were a driver would i not be able to connect at another persons house.
ive done the ping test and its 100% loss
i can't check the device manger atm cus my comp is not here but i'll check it and update all my drivers

Try going to the command prompt and running
ping www.google.com
If you can ping, your network connection is fine, and the problem is probably software related. Try different browsers (Firefox, IE, Opera) to see if you get the same problem in each.
See if the computer can access the web-interface of your router. Usually, if you do ipconfig at the command line, you can put the default gateway address in the address bar of your browser and get a configuration page, or at least a prompt for a name and password. If you can't get that far, then there may be a problem between your computer and the router.
Also check and ensure that no firewall is blocking web traffic.

You can also check this using ping to troubleshoot network problem article in order to help you to solve the problem.
