Reply: (edit)The "Sound Recorder" feature (most likely for copyright reasons) in Vista is all but lame. I would suggest you copy the Sound Recorder from Windows XP or download the older "pre-Vista Sound Recorder" & save the executable in your Vista machine's C:\Windows\System32\ directory. What I did on mine was rename Vista's default SoundRecorder.exe in my C:\Windows\System32 -- to SoundRecorder.bak just in case -- then I renamed the sndrec32.exe that I copied to SoundRecorder.exe & started using that in its place. BTW, remember to right-click the copied file & run it as Administrator immediately so that the registry routine is updated once & for all. Now depending on what you intend to record through: you may need to go to Volume → Recording Devices → Right-Click → check mark "Show Disabled Devices" in order to enable the applicable component.

Reply: (edit)I had similar problem but i found solution by myself. I had audio card "REALTEK HIGH DEFINITIoN AUDIO" First attempt to enabled the display of Disabled or Disconnected devices in (CTRLPANEL >> SOUND >> RECORDING area) where you have to right click on blank area and select "SHOW DISBLED DEVICES" and "DISCONNECTED DEVICE" But even after doing this STEREO MIX was now visible in this area to enable recording. Then made some workaround and found that I was using Microsoft's builtin driver in VISTA and not from the Manufacturer, but it was working well for everything else. But I gave a try and installed Driver Downloaded from INTEL website under my Motherboard (D102GGC2) page and voila, the option STEREO MIX was started to show. You can try this by installing XP-DRIVER of soundcard which came with your motherboard with Integrated SoundCard Chip. Hope this helps. C Mahendra Mumbai India
