I am going to get a new laptop. I sold my old one. I need to transfer files from my desktop also running Vista to the new laptop. Is it possible to use MS backup in vista to back them up then restore them on the new computer? I used MS Backup from my old laptop HD to but on the new one also want to transfer some things from my desktop to the laptop.

Here is what I would do if I were you.
1. Plug in USB jump drive. 2. Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the old computer folders containing my files. Copy the folders to the jump drive. Repeat the process until I have covered every files I want copied. 3. Safely remove USB jump drive and plug it into the new PC. 4. Open up the jump drive using Windows Explorer and copy the folders to a destination of your choice.
The only One thing you shouldn't do is copy programs.
