CPU/Ram: Pentium 4
Product: Dell E520
Comment:

Bought a new Dell Dimension E520 with Vista. Now I am unable to use my favorite LaserJet 1100 printer. The Parallel to USB cord adapters are standard size and not the micro female entry on back of printer. I am trying to just find a Parallel Port Card for new computer and use existing printer cable, but I can't find a card that has a Vista Driver.
Any help would be appreciated.

First thing first - are you certain there is even a driver for this printer to work with Vista?

Yes,
I checked the HP website and have confirmed a driver download for the 1100.

Why not try ...

parallel-usbadapter/cable?

Your antique printer may not last long. Parallel and serial ports used to be the traditional connections for printers and scanners but are rapidly fading away in newer PCs in favor of USB interface.

Unfortuanetely, the connection to the back of the printer is a Micro-Centronics 36-pin connector. The USB adapter cables today only have a full-size Centronics 36-pin connection. I don't know why the LaserJet 1100 has this mini connection. That is why I thought to just get a Parallel Port Card to connect my existing printer cable but iI can't find one with a Vista driver.

Dear Orbital,
Thanks for the Ram Electronics tip. They can help me but it will take 3 different parts. Total with shipping $85...think maybe I should look at a new printer.

I bought a cable to do just this, and it works great. Attaches to you existing parallel cable, so no need to worry about the mini-centronics end. And it's only $7.50!
