I'm in dual boot XP/Vista(comp No 1)

I want to share folders with my 2nd computer(comp No 2)...thing is that i have to run the router(D-Link) wizard. It would be the 2nd time i have to run the router wizard since i installed it, now i'm afraid that if i set things with router/vista i will screw up things on my network when i boot to xp again. Do i make sense at all???

I saw many people having network troubles on Microsoft Vista forum and nobody seems to be able to do anything about it. Anyone tried it yet?? Thanks!!

Just my 2 cents. Even MS suggests you DO NOT put vista on a primary or machine being used for data. You are asking for trouble.

Why do you have to run the router Wizard? If it is already configured correctly it should pick up any TCP/IP connected PC/MAC.

Secondly Vista is BETA that means unstable, unfinished, unstable, you are a guinea pig for M$.

Hi,

Have you tried testing the connection between the compNo1 and compNo2?

Check if the firewall on each computer is set to allow through 'File and Printer sharing' in the exceptions list.

Try opening a command prompt, Start > Run > CMD on each computer (Vista hides 'run' by default so try Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt if needed)
Type IPConfig in each pc's command prompt and note down their IP Address, now again on each pc type: ping <other pc's ip address>
If they are both connected to the network you should see something similar to:
Reply from <the ip address your pinging> four times

I agree with jessejames, there shouldnt be any need to run the router wizard again

JesseJames...i agree for the guinea pig part, but i'm a risk taker, it's half the fun!!! You're right for the wizard part...i didn't have to do it...rookie mistake;-( Don't know why but i forgot to put a shared folder in Vista.

PC1(Vista) can see and change things on PC2 shared folder....yay me!!!

PC2(XP)can see but CAN'T change anything on PC1(Vista) shared folder. I can see PC1 on PC2, but when i click on PC1 from PC2 it ask for a user name and password.

I didn't put any user name/password on Vista, even UAC is disable so i can do what ever i want. Now i'm digging in Vista to find how to give permission to PC2 to access PC1. I'm on to something, but i have to find how to give the right permission.

Thanks to everyone!!

Just make a Restore Point before you emss with stuff. That way if it screws up you can just restore the system.

And if you're being prompted for a username, just create a local user account on each computer and make sure they have identical names and passwords...
