I used to see the network icon in my system tray connected as soon as I turned on the computer. Lately, when I turn on the computer, there is a red X over the network icon and in a short time it turns blue again. Is this anything to be concerned about? I have DSL. Thank you.

It means that your network connecting is losing it's connection somehow. More details are needed such as:

1.) Are you using a wireless network card?

2.) Are you using a router?

I am not using a wireless network card or router. The modem goes directly into the PC. I did a pretty extensive download last week; do you think the NIC card might have been effected? I can't see why it would have, since business computers are on all day handling traffic with no problems.

yeah...if you don't experience any noticeable difference with your connection when you are browsing/downloading, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
