OS: Vista Home Basic
CPU/Ram: Athlon64 2.0gig/1gb ram
Product: Dell demented c521
Comment:

Just reinstalled Vista clean. It sucks I know but whatever. Anyways, my pc boots up and to the desktop as normal. My startup items are minimal. But the network icon is Xed out for about 20-30 secs then turns to yellow caution symbol then goes to the limited discovery thing and finally after a minute or so it is normal again. I've tried reinstalling the drivers for my network card with the newest and older drivers to no avail. It was not like this before. SP1 did not help. I only have one pc hard wired to a isp supplied router/modem. Suggestions or any help would be nice. Thanx:)

hi

ive just added an extra 1gig of ram to a friends c521 (just to proove a point the rest of the world already knew), heh he only had 512 meg stick as supplied original from dell , he has noticed the speed of connection has increased dramatically & everything else now working faster than snail pace.
Maybe the resources on your pc are still loading as you have 1 gig very feeble for vista , i must admit dell pcs with less than 2 gig + vista gave us a good laugh,
so id try an extra 1gig upgrade.

dell's later specs only came with 1 gig I guess he was unlucky back in 07.
i suspect your in the same club for now

Tanx for your input. Yes I know I need more ram. I guess i better invest in some more. The thing was I didn't have this problem before I reformatted. I have a 2gb memory stick that I use for readyboost and forgot to plug in again after I reformatted. I plugged it back in and the connection only takes less than ten seconds. I am seriously going to invest in some more ram since this box sucks. Should not have got it but it was free from isp and blah blah blah blah.....

TY who ever you are:)
