need to get vista installer of HDD

November 30, 2009 at 00:43:23
Specs: Vista Home Premium
My main Hard drive is going, it's buzzing and I need a solution.

Problem is I cannot just go and get a replacement hard drive because when I got my computer the Windows Vista install files are on the hard disk.

I need to know how to get my Vista install files from hard disk to CD/DVD. Any solutions?

When you purchase a new hard drive it should come with software to use to clone teh old hard drive to the new one.

I was told that there is a recovery DVD maker on my HDD to make a Vista Installation DVD However when I try to make a DVD it keeps saying "Application Failed". The DVD is blank, formatted and I don't know what to do next. You say there should be a cloning option with the new HDD, however it's my Main HDD (C:/) thats going.

I am stressed. I have backed up all my important data on my portable hard drive but the problem is... I have no OS DVD. I personally think the person who thought the idea of havng the installation files on a HDD should be shot. This is causing multiple problems for me and I am trying so hard to make this recovery DVD but I keep getting "Failed" which I am fedup of seeing.

Contact your machine vendor, you may be able to order backup recovery disc(s).

Of course the time to create the resore dvd's would have been when you first got the computer. You may still be able to purchase a set of recovery disks from the maker of your computer.
You may still be able to save the contents of the drive if you get a replacement before it dies.
Get a new Seagate or WD hdd, download the drive utilities from the one you choose, you can use the drive utilities to transfer the entire contents of your old drive to the new one including the operating system and recovery partition.
If you're lucky the drive may come with the required utilities already in the package.

"The DVD is blank, formatted "

Are you saying that the DVD has been formatted? If so don't. Just use a blank DVD-R disk and try the app.

Even with a blank DVD-R or RW it keeps giving me the "Application failed" error. As for the recovery thing, I only just found out about it yesturday. Not my fault really that I only just found out about the recovery DVD maker thing. The manuals my computer came with and the User guide did not specify or tell me it had the software to make it!
