need help opening a folder that disappered

September 16, 2010 at 09:24:03
Specs: Windows Vista
I had a folder on my C: that disappered.
I'm working with windows vista.

-I did an advanced search on the folder and it says the folders location is:

a. How on earth did my folder get there?

-When I click on the folder it brings me to another set of folders. I opened recent items folder and see all of the folders I am looking for. However they are shortcuts.

When I tried to open the desired folder(s) this message comes up:

The item 'school' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?

b. How do I get this folder back with all it's contents in it?

Any help would be appreciated.

a: common mistake with drag and drop or drag and drop accidently. Try right mouse click copy/cut and paste instead since it is more target friendly.

I don't believe this is the real folder but a windows retained list of what was recently accessed hence the shortcuts.

Did you check recycle bin for the folder?

Do your advanced search for one of the files in the folder. Look for a result that isn't a shortcut and you will probably find the rest of the files in the same place. If so set up a new folder, cut/paste the files into it. If you find the actual folder and contents together then cut/paste this into the original location.
