Specs: Windows Vista, pentium 4
upon turning computer on this screen comes up for the HDD primary code for an "acer aspire 5610z". Is there a generic code that will work to get the computer started?

There is no generic code. If there was such a code and you could obtain it by simply asking on a forum, what would be the point? The security value would be virtually nil.

You need to contact Acer and be prepared to prove ownership.

I am no computer expert by any means. I don't even know what the hdd pass code means, I bought this computer about 4-5 years ago and I don't know if this is a password I set myself upon setting up the computer or if it is a factory password. The computer was full so I ran the backup disks in it to get it back to factory settings and clean it up and it worked fine when I did that. I logged-off/shut down and the next day this "hdd passcode" box came up so I can't get on it. Do you know if there is anyway to get around this? Thank You so much for your response.

At this point in time it is not important how the password came to exist. It exists. From the factory there is no password. Removing the password is very difficult, if it were otherwise it would have no value. Normally only the manufacturer has the means to do this.

A password of any kind is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access. Theft of laptops is a serious problem. Even if there were some easy way to remove the password it would be irresponsible to reveal it on a public forum. There is no way to verify your situation and no assurance that such information would not be used for illegal purposes.

For this reason most forums do not help with password problems.

This almost seems word for word of a post maybe 6 months ago. Might search.

Don't know what that was anymore.

Guess you could press nothing and see if that works?

I'd go to the OEM site for their technical support or forum support.
