Subject: need a wireless router for vista OS: vistaCPU/Ram: amdModel/Manufacturer: toshiba a215-4747 |
Comment: I have road runner and was just advised that I cannot get a wireless router through them yet, it isn't compatable with vista. What would be a good reasonable inexpensive router to get thats certified for vista? My second question is My laptop is brand new is their anything else I need to have besides the router for the wireless Connection? TGIRL

Reply: (edit)I have been using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and it works fine with Vista. I didn't have to update any software from when I was using it with XP. Your laptop probably has a wireless card-you would just have to configure the wireless settings.

Call Time Warner Road Runner again and demand to speak with someone who know the business better. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)To use vista all you need is a router with 128bit encryption and set it up that way. Vista will not work with 64 bit encryption. Most wireless routers now a day has both 64 and 128 and the book can explain how to set them up.
