Specs: Windows XP
I had a lot of programs running in the background and my computer was freezing up so I was told to go into the system configuration utility and disable the startup items so these programs would not run in the background.I restarted my computer and when I went back in to the scu I noticed that under services windows audio is checked off that it was stopped.I can't seem to turn it back on.Any suggestions?I have no sound from my speakers and I am not able to adjust the service in sounds and audio devices there is no hardware installed now.I am using windows xp.thanks

When you disabled the Startup items, you probably disabled a program that enables the Audio. Disabling these items may reduce the process count, but otherwise it doesn't speed up your system that much, and it can keep some things from working on startup (IE. Your Audio). Just re-enable all of the items and use a program like CCleaner to improve performance.
