I just purchased a toshiba laptop and I wanted to transfer my music files from my old laptop to the new one. they are mostly japanese songs with japanese characters on the tags. so I first transferred everything to my "WD my book external hardrive" and than to the toshiba hardrive. but after it was transferred, all the japanese characters became unreadable. what can I do?

Sounds like you need to install support for Japanese characters. Open control panel, then Regional and Language Options. Click on the keyboard and language tab. At the bottom of the window you will see a link telling you how to do this.
