Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or if it has a simple answer or not...

I have 2 hard drives and both have the windows XP system files on them. I want to remove the files of one of my hard drives in order to create more space for files

Can anybody tell me which drive to delete the files from?

Both HDDs are 80GB

Also i have no windows XP installation disk as i had my pc built and used the Windows OS from my old pc to put on my new one. Not sure if this matters or not.

Thankyou

Not a stupid question at all.

Rather difficult to decide an answer also.

What I would consider is to power down and remove ac plug. Use esd protection then remove power or data or both cables from a drive. Reboot to bios and make note of what it shows. Then try to boot to windows. If everything works fine then you can be pretty sure you have the extra drive.

If both drives are exactly the same make and model then if you are really sure you have picked the one you want to keep by the cable method then you can hook up the bad one and start to load windows to the point of delete partition. (or use floppy dos). Then reboot.

You should consider making a full backup before you try this to remote media.

No need to delve inside the box. Open a CMD window (Start Menu/Run box, type cmd and hit OK or enter), then type SET followed by enter at the C:\> prompt. The SystemRoot line will show your Windows folder. If it's on your C drive, you can delete the Windows folder from the other (D?), and vice-versa of course.
