Comment: Ok, here is the situation. My father has two computers in two different locations. He created some spreadsheets in MS Works on a computer with Windows XP. When he then tried to open the files on his computer with Windows Vista it asked him to convert the files, which he did. Now he is back to his other computer with Windows XP and he is trying to open the updated spreadsheets from his Vista computer but he isn't able to. When he tries to open the files on his XP machine it first asks him "do you want to open this file as a spreadsheet?" and he says yes and then it asks him one more thing I can't remember but when the file is ultimately opened it just shows a bunch of code and not the original file. So is there a way to convert the Works file created on a Vista machine with a .xlr extension on a Windows XP machine? Thanks for any and all help and I'll check back later if more clarification to my question is needed. Qbart

Reply: (edit)What versions of M$ Works is installed on each machine? If they are the same, the problem may be just that your father have saved the file in a file format (on a Vista-based PC) that is incompatible with Windows XP. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the quick reply, I'm not sure what the version number of the Works installation is at the moment but I do know that they are the same version on both computers. Now he emailed me one of the files he is having problems with and I'm able to open it with my Excel and I'm running Windows XP with MS Office 2003. I'm just not sure why he can't open it with his Windows XP machine.
