Comment:

I have above notebook running pre-installed Vista, with a trial version of MS Office 2007. I re-created my resume in MS Works because no one could open the one I created in Word 2007 (just love MS and their constant search for more of my money GRRRR!!!) Now the trial of MS Office is expired so there's almost no functionality & I can't currently afford to activate the license. I have a Dell desktop running XP Pro with fully licensed MS Office 2003, on which I have many documents. Since Office 2003 is not "forwardly compatible" how can I go about transferring those documents to my Vista computer & have them functional? Sorry to be so "geek-challenged", but I'm trying to avoid having to install XP on my Vista notebook, but will do it if necessary since there are so many other issues with applications, etc. being compatible with Vista. PLEASE HELP & THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!

I have ran both Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 on Vista though not at same time. there is a option to make what you have on word 2007 readable in Office 2003. I had to use it when I sent something to my Dad and he couldn't open the document till I converted it so his Office 2003 could open it.

I am using Word 2007. I have configured Word Option to auto save all my documents in Word 97-2003 format for backward compatibility. You could do the same by following this simple procedure.

Saving Excel files in Word 97-2003 format is also an option in MS Office 2007.

jwmed - yr problem is the expired trial version of 2007 with a whole string of functions disabled. Razor2.3 is correct, the compatibility pack will enable you to save yr doc files (from yr desktop) to docx (for yr notebook) with 2003. The format & style may not be 100% but it will open in 2007 and it will be "functional". Yr files will be slightly larger. The docx format is a zip.
Also have a look at Word Viewer (Vista compatible) for yr notebook.

Thanks, all. Have downloaded both compatibility pack & Viewer. Unfortunately, that doesn't fix my current non-functionaliy of Office 2007. What about Open Office? Will it meet my needs until I can afford to activate the license on MS Office 2007? Are documents I create in Open Office going to be functional in MS (when I do update) & vice versa?

You should be able to do most of yr basics with OpenOffice but there will never be a guarantee on compatibility between the two, it is a take it or leave it situation. Have a look at the OpenOffice forum = http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewf...

You will never be able to have the best of two worlds = http://user.services.openoffice.org...
