Hello
I updated Vista from the Microsoft site.

Now I find that my PC has stopped working.

The Hard Disk just spins like crazy. I can't start the machine, nothing is recognised, not the CD drive, keyboard or screen.

Sometimes the screen shows a logo, then the PC turns off, then I start it again and the HD just spinds very fast, and loud.

This must be something to do with the Vista upgrade, as it happened after I downloaded it..

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks

Can you boot up in Safe Mode ? Then you could try to uninstall the update. Was this a critical update, or one of the optional driver updates ? I would avoid the latter type of updates.

Hello

It was an optional update.. can't remember which

I can't do anything

The PC will not even recognise the keyboard... nothing..

All it does is spin the HD very fast...

I've tried everything..

Is there anything I can do with this?

Thanks

Is it a PS2 or USB keyboard ? Perhaps try another keyboard, though that might not work.

What do you mean by the hard drive spinning fast? Are you sure it's not the CD drive? Does anything at all appear on the screen after you press the button to turn the system on? You mentioned a logo. What logo is this? If this happens immediately after turning the PC on, it might just be coincidence that a hardware component has failed at the same time that you installed the update. This has happened to me several times. It may have nothing to do with the update.

If the PC doesn't recognize the keyboard, it's most likely NOT a Windows problem

Thanks for the info

>What do you mean by the hard drive spinning fast?
I can hear the HD, (I assume its the HD) its not the CD drive.. there's a loud whirring sound

>Does anything at all appear on the screen after you press the button to turn the system on?

The logo that used to appear has gone now.

Yes - that may be, I'll try to work this out

thanks
