Comment:

My Lenovo 3000 came with WVB pre-installed on a 80GB
HD. It is v. noisy and in constant use. Driving me crazy. I
put a 2nd HD in machine (160GB WD Caviar, SATA-300),
initially intending it for backup.

However I'd like to move the OS from the original HD to
the new one.

I don't have any install discs, just a Rescue partition on
the original disk, a Windows Upgrade DVD and a licence
key on the system unit itself.

Any ideas ?

You need to clone the old drive to new drive, Acronis True Image will accomplish the task.

Thanks, actually as the original HD was not very setup (no
important programmes or user data), I tried just doing a
re-install to the 2nd HD. Actually it went through very
quickly using the Windows Vista UPgrade DVD and the
licence key from the PC case.

Now, the original Vista installation on the (noisy) HD
seems to be rendered useless - I cannot boot from it.
However I can access all the programmes and data there.

The new Vista installation is much quieter, so I've
achieved most of my goals here.

Thanks for the tip Acronis TI looks like a good tool for a
more personalised OS setup.

Kind Regards
