Alright i have a soundblaster live! sound card installed but i would also like to use the digital out that is on my motherboard because i have my computer hooked up to my surround sound. Is there anyway i can use both of these together? Right now when i install the sound card, it gets rid of the onboard completely (realtek) and i can't open it or anything. Thanks for the help.

Windows allows more than one sound chipset but you can only use one at a time - not both in your case. Installing the sound card does not get rid of anything - it has just made itself the default sound chipset. The Realtek drivers are still there if you did not un-install them, and the Realtek sound will work, as long as the onboard sound is not disabled in the bios Setup.
I don't have Vista, but this should be similar to XP:
Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Audio tab - choose the sound chipset you want to use for each function.

Also, the SB Live may also have digital out, by means of an internal connector.
