Comment:

graphics card is dvi (2 connections)
monitor is vga and hd tv is vga

i have an adapter for the monitor (dvi to vga) and was thinking of getting the same for the tv
as i already have a 5metre vga to vga that i used to use with the tv on my old graphics card

WOULD I BE BETTER GETTING ANOTHER CABLE DVI TO VGA OR WILL AN ADAPTER BE THE SAME

If I understand correctly you are asking if a DVI to VGA cable is of the same quality as a DVI to VGA converter and a VGA to VGA cable. If so, yes. here shouldn't be any noticable drop in quality.
