Merging XP & Vista registries

March 4, 2009 at 13:02:38
Specs: Windows XP, 4 core
I bought a new PC with Vista. Have put my old XP drive into a USB case to run software from it. The first opening of SW on the USB connected XP drive asks for registration/serial number info. I'm assuming that if I can merge the old XP registry with the new Vista one, this problem will be resolved. But I don't know how to do it. Any solutions out there?

Well your assumption is not only impractible but also impossible as far as Windows is concerned. You will need to reinstall whatever you want to in whichever OS you want it to work.

Thanks for that. The interesting thing though, is that ALL my software from the XP drive runs beautifully in demo mode if I don't enter rego info. One Macromedia product for which I DID enter the rego info also ran beautifully. My conclusion is that running the software from the XP USB connected drive is feasible. The problem is with the registry info.
