Any help on this would be great.

I have an HP Pavilion M8100n computer (Windows Vista 32bit) that I'm trying to upgrade the memory for. The memory I've been trying to use is Memory Master DDR2 PC2-6400 (x4) 1GB 240-pin (from bestbuy's website) it says it's backward compatible 800mhz, 667mhz, & 533mhz. My old memory is Samsung 1gb 2rx8 pc2-5300u-555-12-e3 (x2 512mb - x2 1gb). After installing the new memory I received the standard blank screen and long consecutive beeps, so I tried my old memory again to make sure I didn't accidentally damage the motherboard, it started up normally so no ESD. So the question is did I get the wrong memory or is the hp only compatible with certain brands?
