Hi,

A couple months ago I purchased a Maxtor basis 640GB EXT HD from PC world!(mistake from the start) Anyways I run my Itunes off the hard drive as i have a fair bit of music (about 70gb or so) I fired up itunes for the first time in a while and tried to listen to music, which could not be found? So i proceeded to see if the HD was plugged in. And it was, so I tried to open it and it said access denied.I did some googling and someone said; go on properties, security and check full control is enabled. (which is wasn't so i clicked allow full control) I window then came up and it was was then going through the files on my drive which I thought would sort it. Basically it hasnt and now when I try to open/access/explore my hard drive it says 'the file or the directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Everything on that drive means a lot to me, it has all my uni work, pics, and music on.

Would be really great if someone can help?

Kind Regards,

Adam

Double click on my computer, select the external harddrive and then right click on it and then go to the tools tab and click on error checking and then check both boxes, and if it asks you to reboot then let it, see if that works.

Hi Jim, thanks for your response. I just tried as you said but when I clicked on the 'check now' button under tools tabs and error checking it came up with 'this disk check could not be performed because Windows cannot access the disk' so will not even let try to do that. It used to say that message when it first went wrong, then I trid to fix it now it says corrupt/unreadable etc. I hope I havent totally broken it. To be honest I'd over the moon just to get the music off it. The HD was only £70 for 640GB. Possibly why its gone wrong, but maybe the idiot behind the wheel so to speak. Any more suggestions?

Many Thanks
Adam

Oh!! This is a case of hard disk corruption as the errors("cannot access") you are talking about are giving an indication of HDD corruption..
Best way to resolve the problem would be to buy one best recovery software, which can get you back your music files, pics whatever it had your stuff.. You can trust on Kernel for hard drive data recovery software..The best part is you can go for Demo version for free and upon complete satisfaction of getting your lost data, you can buy the full version.. Its fully cost effective and customer friendly..
