Here is a little trick to make your internet connection faster by disabling some useless feature in Vista which use some of your connection speed its own purposes.

go to your command prompt and type:
netsh interface tcp set global
autotuning=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global chimney=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

of coures you have to hit enter after each command.

to revert it all:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=enabled
netsh interface tcp set global chimney=enabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss=enabled

The TCP scripts from above did not show a measurable improvement in my internet connection speed or line throughput. I guess SP1 might have something to do with that. But thanks for the tip anyway!

Buy a new Ethernet Adapter 10/100/1000 with 1Gb memory. About $25.00-$35.00 US. This will improve "back paging" on the net.

Tweak your Ethernet Adapter settings

Jumbo packets up>
received buffer 32 (single core) or 64 (dual cores, if 64bit enabled)
transmit buffers 32 or 64
speed duplex full or auto

Always record/write down the original settings when making these changes. This goes for the "services" and "registry" as well.

A wired connection is faster then wireless. There is a considerable drop in performance using wireless connectivity. Wires are good :)

There is no substitute for a fast IP connection. The link speed no matter how fast will always be a bottleneck in any system.
