Hi
I think my search system doesn't work because it comes up with nothing, even when I search for something that I know is there it doesn't come up in the search box.

I use a separate hard drive to store my documents and other folders under "USERS", it worked before, please can you help me?

Hope you can help solve this problem to-inturn-be able to solve the above problem.

Many Thanks,
Joseph Middleton

Is that particular drive indexed? If not, you might want to have the drive indexed. If the drive is already indexed, you might want to rebuild your index protocol ... be advised this could take a while.

Follow these steps to rebuild your index:

1. Open the Start menu and click the Control Panel.

The Control Panel appears in a window.

2. Open the Indexing Options icon.

Don't spot it? Click the System and Maintenance icon to reveal the Indexing Options icon.

3. Click the Advanced button and then click the Rebuild button.

Vista warns you that rebuilding the index takes a long time.

4. Click OK.

Vista begins indexing anew, waiting until it's finished with the new index before it deletes the old one.

let's see if that works.

When at step 2-3
It just says "recieve indexing status" and it just hangs, everything else is grayed out.

Did you check if the service (Windows Search) is on?

In Services on Task Manager it says it is runnning under group N/A.
I can search my C: Drive easily and very quickly but when I got to my F: drive which is another 500gb Seagate SATAII which is the location for my "USER" folders I search for a song for example (which I know exists) and does not come up even after waiting 5minutes. I chose to index the folder too!

Many Thanks,

You can either fix this problem or try Locate32. It's a better file finder than Windows Search. After you let it index your files, file finds are instantaneous -- literally. Since I found this, I don't use Windows Search anymore. But it's your go.

Look for some replacement tool on the net, the MS search is so bad, trying to fix is a waste of time. In XP, it'll never work, if it does not by now

Hi there.

Hi
I am planning to do a re-install of vista anyway so that should solve the problem!

Many Thanks,
