Subject: Loading Previously Installed OS
OS: Vista
CPU/Ram: Dual Xeon 2.8/ 2gig.
Model/Manufacturer: Me
Comment:

Does anyone know how come the option to load the previously installed OS doesn't work?

If you set "Folder Options" to allow Hidden Files and Protected Files, you will see the "Boot.Bak" file. At the top you will see instruction on the method used in Vista to change the Boot.INI (formerly called)

When I start this program, it's methods of modification elude me. You have to start from a cmd prompt and type BCDEDIT.exe to load the editor. Type /? To get instructions, but I can’t figure them out.

Is anyone else having trouble loading XP, after installing Vista?

I do not and neither should you have that problem in Vista, even though it creates a new boot menu, you should still be able to load XP by choice from the startup menu or Vista (by default).

If you are trying to setup the system to always load XP as the default boot OS, you need to go into the 'StartUp & Recovery' option window within system properties to configure XP as the default boot OS.

None of those options worked for my installation of Vista.

I found that Vista has a built-in resizer, so I shrunk the partition and installed XP on the new partition.

What was weird is Vista disappeared completely from the computer after I installed XP on the new partition.

All of the Vista files are still there (and accessible) but Vista is gone. I ended up with 2 versions of Windows XP Pro with only the newest install bootable.

Totally weird!

Hello this may or may not help
I have 2 hard drives, both divided into 2
'C' holds window me: 'E' is storage extra programs etc
'D' holds XP pro: 'F' now holds beta vista
the initial boot menu gives me 2 choices; previous windows & windows either can be made the default
previous windows then gives me windows me & XP (default)
windows is vista; can make either default
when reinstalling my dual boots the booting sequence is set up automatically
