How did you get this "new" computer? If you bought it brand new out-of-the-box from a store, you won't be getting this error message. If you bought the Gateway as "used" from somebody, the FreeDOS is an operating system emulator that was improperly installed on the machine by the previous owner/user. FreeDOS does not work on Windows platforms XP and beyond.

FreeDOS is not an Operating System Emulator, it is the Open Source MS-DOS clone, a complete working free operating system.

So stated I agree with XpUser: FreeDOS has nothing to do with modern systems as XP/Vista and probably left (in a bad state) by the previous laptop owner.
