Loading disks into CD/DVD causes blue screen

Hewlett-packard 530

Specs: Windows Vista sp #2, T2050@1.60GHZ RAM 4
When I first got this HP 530 (business) with Vista, I used it only to play music CD's which it did OK.

About a year ago, I started wanting to do other things with my CD/DVD drive and found:

Sometimes when I put blank disks into CD/DVD DRIVE, I get a blue screen crash.
Sometimes when I put a program disk of even a data disc into the CD/DVD DRIVE, the same thing happens. The BSOD’S are always caused and only caused by the CD/DVD DRIVE.

I am attaching the only the recent crash records which basically show that the crashes are
"caused by Driver fltmgr.sys.”
"caused by address fltmgr.sys+9385

Best guess - replacing the DVD drive will sort it - they're not expensive (look on ebay) and usually the easiest hardware item to replace on a laptop (usually just needs one screw removing, pull out old one and push in new, screw back in). Also HP do provide service manuals on their website (which will show you how to do it for you machine).

Thanks Steve,

All the diagnosticts I run, including HP's say that the hardware is working fine.
I had thought of replacing the drive but since the error messages I was getting related to malfunctioning software, I decided against it.
Also, if the drive was bad, it wouldn't play the music disk would it?
