I have a Soundblaster X-Fi PCI-e card with the latest drivers installed. If I plug my microphone into the "Mic" port on the front of my case it is detected and works fine. If I plug it into the Line-in port on the back, Vista shows it as connected, but the VU meter doesn't detect any sound, nor does any application. It seems to know the mic is plugged in, but can't get sound from it. What's the deal?

The Line-in (blue) jack is for devices not for microphones.

I think you might be on to something. It seems the jack is actually a "flexijack" which can be configured to be either a line-in, mic-in, or digital out. The problem is that this has to be configured with a program called "Creative Console Launcher". I found the program on Creative's site, but can't get it to install (wither because my hardware is OEM or because I am using Vista x64). But even if I could, I wouldn't want to have this program running all the time just to use the Mic-in jack.

Is there any sort of registry/driver hack that will make the "flexijack" default to behaving as a mic-in port?

I don't know anything about flexijack but the 64bit thing is new and not everything is compatible.

Creative has 64bit drivers for the card (which installed fine), so I suspect the probelm is that my card is actually a Gateway OEM model pulled from another computer.
