The driver for all makes of DVD drives is a generic Microsoft one built into Windows, so it's unlikely that you've "lost" it. It may be just that Windows has failed to give it a drive letter, but you can give it one manually in:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
Right-click the appropriate ribbone and choose "Change drive letter and paths".

I think he's confusing the word drive with driver. I'd be willing to bet his CD drive has dissapeared from showing in Explorer.

But phil22's advice would still be applicable, as it is possible that the computer didn't assign a drive letter.
