Comment:

My HP Pavilion 6000 (HP Pavilion dv6408nr) series laptop crashed in the middle of work last night. It made a funny noise and screen went white to black. I manually shut down the computer and tried a cold boot but only the indicator lights come on, the fans start but after 1-2 seconds, shuts down and tries to re-start again. I can hear the drives going, fans go on-off, screen remains black, indicator lights go on and off....Help. I didn't back up any files.

also:

If the PC cannot launch into Windows, it may still be possible to use the HP Recovery Manager on the hard drive to restore the computer to the original operating condition by following the steps below.

Press the Power button to start the PC and immediately press the F11 key to open the HP Recovery Manager.

If the HP Recovery Manager can access the hard drive, a prompt is displayed to backup the user files before beginning the recovery. Follow any on-screen instructions.

If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix any system errors, use the set of recovery discs to recover the hard drive to its original condition.

I tried reseating RAM and still the computer does not boot. I can still hear the drives going but immediately shuts down and tries to reboot itself. The indicator lights come on and fan makes and attempt to come on. The Monitor remains blank/black. I haven't determined if I should just get a new computer or chance a repair bill.
