When I perform a complete shutdown on my laptop, it seems normal and then at the last second goes to a BSOD. However, the screen is all jumbled and flickering so I can't read what the error is. The computer just sits in this state and will not shut down.
I have narrowed the problem down to the CD/DVD drive. If I boot the computer without the CD/DVD drive, it shuts down just fine. The drive is a Toshiba Samsung TS-L532M. I have also tried another CD/DVD drive (HP Super Multi Drive GSA-4084N) and have the same problem. If the drive is in place, the computer will not shut down, I get BSOD. If the drive is out, the computer shuts down just fine.
I have upgraded the computer's BIOS to the latest version available. I have searched the Internet for new drivers, found none.
Please help. I don't know what else to try.
Thanks,
Scott

See event viewer logs. Also might have to read dump logs.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

There is nothing in the event logs, the Event Log Service is already stopped when the BSOD appears.
How do I read the dump logs?

try to update the firmware for the combo drive.
If you, if you could return, don't let it burn, don't let it fade.
