Specs: Windows Vista, not available
The screen display is dim. The motherboard was replaced, then backlight and now the inverter, but is still dim. The screen works fine when connecting to external monitor.

Dim as in dimmer than usual or almost black? In my case I broke the cable that connects the lcd to laptop motherboard so maybe a new cable would work? If it's just dim it means it's only running on batt.

Truth can become lie, but if lies become truth we're in trouble.

Almost black, you can see what's displayed with a flashlight. So I wouldn't need to replace the LCD screen?

The internal backlight of the laptop has failed. Meaning that the monitor is not bright enough for you to see. you can do one of two things

1. use an external monitor cable to connect to a second monitor
2. open the case and replace the backlight/check wires.

I had the same problem with my first laptop. The backlight died and I was unable to use it. I baught a cable and connected it to my TV it worked fine.
