I have a Compaq laptop, probably had it for about a year and my mother was using it earlier and noticed it wasn't charging. Usually when it's plugged in to charge, there's a blue light to say it's working and charges fine but now the light isn't there and it was so low that now the laptop won't turn on until it's charged again.
I'm just wondering, could it be the battery in the laptop itself, or is it more likely to be the plug/charger that is causing this problem? I don't want to buy a replacement part only to find I bought the wrong bit needed.

Does the light flicker on and off when you wiggle the power plug in the laptop? If it does then the problem is usually not the adapter but the DC jack on the systemboard broken loose and not making good connections. You can get a power supply tested easily at most shops. This repair is generally not in the skills for most users to be able to repair it. All require the systemboard to be removed and the jack either removed, cleaned and resoldered to the board or replaced if damaged. Take it to a shop you trust and ask them on what they see with it.
