Laptop Keyboard inputting rubbish

April 4, 2010 at 16:37:45
Specs: Windows Vista
I am raising this question on behalf of someone who cannot raise it themself because of this problem...

They have a Laptop running Windows Vista which some weeks ago developed a keyboard problem in which rubbish input generally unlike the key pressed is displayed. A few keys work normally, some output multiple different characters. The following handful of examples were recorded while pressing keys in Works Word Processor:

g = 5tg
h = 6yhn
j = 6y
k = nothing
l = u
u = 6ynh
y = 6yhn
8 = 8
e = nothing
q = nothing
p = p
m = 6yh
9 = 79

Another characteristic is sometimes with no keys pressed, the cursor will move rapidly towards first character in word processor file, i.e. behaving as if left arrow key were held down.

Has anyone seen this problem before?
