laptop has unmountable boot volume error

Specs: Windows Vista
My Sony Vaio is not working. I put the Vista Repair disk in and when i try to do the system startup repair it says no hard disk found. Because of that I can't do any of the system restore options either. I can use the command prompt, but I'm not sure what to do and if it isn't seeing a hard drive is there a way to get it to? Thank you so much, I'm on someone else's computer and really need mine asap.

Starts to look like a problem with the hard drive. Use bios to see if it detects a hard drive to start. While it doesn't really need to show up in bios (newer MS OS's don't rely on bios as such).

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
