In some applications (particularly anything in Internet Explorer or Firefox but also Windows Mail) this keyboard generartes strange characters for example, instead of question mark it does É, instead of a double quote I get È here are the shift characters from the top keyboard row:
\!@#$%?&*()_+Àalmost normal except for the extreme Left and RH keys.
the 2 keys to the Right of the P , L and the three to the R of M show as follows:
^ç
;è
,.éand the shifts on those are:
¨Ç
:È
'"Ébut in Word or Excel (or the Open Office equivalent) these keys generate the normal characters
I have checked the Keyboard and Languages settings in Control Panel. and have tried English Canadian, English Canadian Multilinqual and English US
but it doesnt fix it.
any suggestions (I would insert a question mark here if I could)

I assume the problematic keyboard is a standalone device connected to the computer through PS/2 or USB ports, and NOT a laptop. Try another keyboard and see if the problem is reproductible. i_Xp/Vista/W7User
Correct, I have (or from these keyboards Iève) tried 2 keyboards, both wired connections via USB, and both are behaving the same goofy way. Peter
That's odd. Any chance of trying with an old PS/2 keyboard to see if that does the same?
Strange characters that show up suddenly and resolve seemingly on their own are usually the result of holding down ctrl and the left shift keys simultaneously. To change it back, hold down ctrl and the left shift keys simultaneously for 4 or 5 seconds.
