Subject: Is My Computer Good For Vista?OS: Vista Home PremiumCPU/Ram: P4 2.0 1GBModel/Manufacturer: IBM Intellistation M Pro |
Comment: This computer has a P4 2.0GHZ processor, 1GB RDRAM(RAMBUS)memory, and a 512mb agp graphics card running at 4x(all board supports), along with a 160gb ide 8MB buffer hard drive. Is this computer good enough for vista, or will it be sluggish. I would think with a 512 graphics card, it would take the strain off the pc itself.

Reply: (edit)Even though you seem to be "ok" on ram more would really help with Vista. also I would recommend a dual core CPU for vista. Just opening the control panel made my dad's p4 3GHz 100% cpu utilization for about 5 seconds as the icons slowly popped up.

Reply: (edit)Before thinking further on using Vista on this system check the price and availability of RAMBUS modules. We have done this for customers that have RAMBUS systems and they go into sticker shock when seeing the prices for the memory. When price for the memory is more than the price of a complete new system it seems pointless to do it. Since Vista is frustratingly slow with less than 2GB of RAM the choice would be yours. Richard
