Right, I have had several problems with my PC, with programs 'not responding'; being unable to load programs and the computer crashing. My problem is that I do not know which of these are related to 'Vista', the other 'programs' or compatibility.
For Example, I have just run a 'registry scan' and it says that there are 296 registry errors. that maybe/not a lot (I don't know) and it maybe the answer to all my problems, but its answer to these errors is their 'deletion' and that doesn't sound good to me.
Or I run IE7, to use it, I must immediately log on to the net fromn starting my PC otherwise it does not respond. Close IE7 down and restart it and it will no longer respond.
And then of course there is still the incompatibilty of current programs and Vista.
I do apologise over the length of the message but I am looking for suggestions as where to begin or go or do, to solve these difficulties.

I thank you in advance for any help given.

Did you buy your PC with Vista preinstalled or did you upgrade to Vista or did you clean-install Vista ?

If preinstalled, did the problems begin after installing some stuff ?

And how did you do a Registry Scan ?

Regards

well, Vista came preinstalled and although I don't think the problems started immediately (with the exception of compatibility where it seemed nothing was compatible with vista) it wasn't long afterwards.
When I got my Pc I started trying to load various programs. Almost all had issues with Vista, but I was told that was just because of the newness of the OS.

I was told to run various scans (virus, registry etc) to find out if they could identify any problems. They all came back as clean. Except the registry scan (after doing a little check chose to use 'Max Registry cleaner') it said there were 296 errors.

What kind of programs were you installing that gave you problems?

The initial programs that I tried loading were programs for internet access and virus protection. The virus protection (norton) took three attempts to load.

The other programs varied from mircosoft office 2007 to a dictionary program, to Pinnacle's 'Studio'; a couple of foreign language programs. 'Orwell' which is a kind of word searching program; 'matlab' a kind of engineering/maths program and a couple of video editing programs. None of the programs were out of the ordinary as such, but all were a problem to some degree.

Even now the 'Orwell' program doesn't run and produces error messages when I try running it; the pinnacle programs don't load and cause the computer to crash (Blue Screen).

Other programs that seemed to load ok, for instance I have a 'Logitech' webcam, stop running and produces the message that it has stopped running. In the case of the webcam, the only way to get it to run again is to log out and then log back in again.

In reference to the earlier posting by hobbyjoe: 'I had similar problem which was a memory problem'

I am assuming that it is not a memory problem in this case because none of the things that I would expect to see happen or not happening as the case maybe, are happening (programs run; the time it takes to load the same, there are no unusual time delays between tasks.)but I would be interested to know if my assumption is inaccurate.
