Is it safe to leave my computer on all the time? I had a "crash dump" earlier today, and I'm wondering if this was caused by never turning the pc off.

Thanx !

if you leave it on constantly, it is best if you actually reboot at least once a day.
I leave mine on, I have everything set to never so that the screensaver comes on. I have never had a problem with it being on, the only time I turn it off is during Electrical storms or if I have to go away for the weekend.

Hopefully you disconnect the power and network cables from their outlets during an electrical storm. Just shutting down provides no protection from electrical strikes.

Any supporting evidence of why you think its best to reboot daily?

I don't reboot anything except for when updates require it.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

Yes I do unplug everything when I shut down the PC.
Rebooting it every day cleans out the cache so it runs better, refreshes everything.

I never leave mine on. Why spend the money paying not only to power it up but cool the room at the same time.

I have all my computer stuff on a power strip. All the ac adapters that use power all the time and the monitor and computers. The power strip has lightning protection and inputs for the phone and cable to help protect it too.

Leaving it on even in standby wastes energy. All you have to do is flip a switch to help save the earth. How hard is that?

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

In general it won't hurt to leave it on, however when they run all the time the fans tend to be continually cycling the air through the box which is not great in dust prone areas.Otherwise it's hydro and a restart helps sometimes.

Pennywise you must be rich. The only one to benefit from your running the computer 24/7 is your electric company!
