I have tried everything I can think of including these forums and still can not speed it up. I have IE Emulate 7

It take about 30 seconds to load a page and the type doesn' show up until about 15 seconds.

Well Bonnietalcott , as you know IE8 is still in Beta and as such it is still a work in progress . The forums are full of tails of disappointment at the moment ,

So what can be done

CCleaner slim ( no Yahoo tool bar )

http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_...

delete the cookies and also the prefetch , to rule out corrupt files
Flush dns

To flush DNS
go to start orb

in the search box type cmd
in the result panel right click cmd.exe
select run as administrator
type ipconfig /flushdns

when it's finished type exit

And reset your modem\router

shut down your computer\s and turn off the modem\router wait 10 min then press the reset , this is in a tiny hole usually and needs a ballpoint pen to gently reset it .

plug in the power jack and then the DSL line , wait until the blinking light has changed to a steady one . plug in your computers .

boot up , wait until Vista has fully booted , about two min after desktop is displayed

Log on to your ISP and run a speed check .

If thing are no better then goto tools , manage add-ons Disable add-ons if this makes things a lot faster then enable them one a time , until you find the culprit.

Good luck
