Subject: Internet access very slow
OS: Vista Home Premium
CPU/Ram: 3GB
Model/Manufacturer: HP Pavilion Elite m9040n
Comment:

When I purchased this power computer it made me feel comfy about using Vista. The system has 3GB of mem, 600+GB of disk, my graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS.
I am serviced by Comcast broadband, normally when not using the Internet my system is very fast.
I use IE7 with the latest patches. I have Protected Mode ON and automatically delete history when closing IE.
I noticed that it takes a long, long time to load the graphics of any website, including this one.
Is there any settings that may be causing the problem.

ZoneAlarm, BitDefender, Scan with Spyware Doctor, AVG, SpyBot

Temp files are deleted at least everytime I exit IE7, automatically.
I review cookies with Karen's Cookie Viewer and I delete cookies that I do not recognize or find unnecessary. I do believe some cookies are helpful.

You should try a bandwidth test and see if it matches up to the speed of service you have....

I do check with a number of speed check sites. The one that you suggested, one of the sites I used most of the time, happen to favor Comcast for one reason or another. But regardless, it is displaying the 6.3mb that matches Comcast's paid service.

Have you scanned your system for spyware?

I scan the system with BitDefender AntiVirus 2008 and Windows Defender about twice a week (checks all in-out emails). Also scan once a week with Ad-Aware 2008.

Maybe you should temporarily try another browser such as Firefox or Opera to see if it's a browser related problem.

Tested with Firefox latest version. Not much better.

Ok try it in Safe Mode with Networking (tap F8 repeatedly after you turn your PC on until you see a list; highlight Safe Mode with Networking and press enter).

Do you have a home alarm system?

Coming home from very lonely places, all of us go a little mad: whether from great personal success, or just an all-night drive, we are the sole survivors of a world no one else has ever seen.

I am having identical problems with Comcast Internet access on an otherwise fast computer. If I use another device on my home wireless network, access to the internet is fine.

I got these results on my problem PC...

Download 3406 kbps

Upload 354 kbps

but don't know what that means or what to do about it.

Andrew
