I have vista basic on my main hard drive, and, quite frankly, I am fed up with it. I do not have the luxury of uninstalling it (through the various convoluted ways), but I have a second hard drive. I tried booting from the XP professional CD but it said I didn't have any version of windows and that I needed to put in an earlier version disk for verification. Any ideas?

M$ state that you install the oldest O/S first unless you implement a 3rd party boot manager. Also you need a second drive or partition where you install XP.
Do you have a Retail Full XP CD or is this an Upgrade version ? maybe it is a Dell/HP/IBM etal OEM CD ?
