installation of vista from back up image

Specs: Windows vista
i have installed vista home basic in my laptop and have make the image backup of the c drive. Now i want to change my hardisk to upgrade the capacity and i want to install the vista from the image file. so it is possible or not to make exactly same windows display in my new hardisk?

Yes It's very possible , you will need an external cradle for your

hard disc and some imaging software ( I know Acronis True Image works but its not free , however you can get a 30 day trial )

The new HHD must be the same or larger , So no problem there .

What imaging software did you use to create the image you made? This image has to be on another drive or some media external to the HD you are imaging. When that image is successfully written, remove old HD and install new one. Reinstall the image. You will be prompted to adjust the image to fit the new larger hard drive. As stated above be sure the new HD is the same size or larger than the existing one.

You don't need any retail software to clone your hard drive. You can use software from the maker of the hard drive to clone the old drive to the new drive. The fact that you have a laptop complicates the process but it can still be done.

What operating system originally came on the laptop?
