Specs: Windows XP
After creating a 5.5 GB unpartitioned space on the Primary Partition within Vista ( I have checked manually), I rebooted the laptop and ran Set.exe from the Windows XP CD (with SP2).

It shows an error message "This program is blcoked due to compatibility issues. Setup can not continue becuase the version of the Widnows on your computer is newer than the vesrion on the CD"

Doesn't appear you have done your research. 5 gig is not enough room for xp.

You can't install xp from inside vista. Correct procedure is to boot the xp cd via the bios and install that way.

You do understand that you will need to repair vista after the install to get vista booting again, right?

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

As wanderer says.

Also you may wish to consider running a virtual machine if your system is good enough. It is an easy way to bypass some of the hardware issues.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

I think you cannot install XP on a partition made by Vista even if the size of the partition is well enough. For further information, please see this MS KB Article.
