Hi all,
I've installed Win Vista Ultimate and met this problem: no audio.

And it seems that my Intel mainboard is not a branded one..it wasn't detected by Intel Board ID Utility.Another thing is it uses only 845chipset,which is too old?! Does this chipset's audio driver support Vista?

Couldn't find a lot of info on your system, but what little I did find suggested that the on-board audio is AC97 which is pretty old. That along with the fact the your maximum cpu speed and maximum memory are pretty low by today's standards kind of suggests that your entire system is a bit too old to be running vista at any efficient level. You could buy a separate sound card, but you would be better off just simply updating the entire system.

With more memory this PC is more than capable of running VISTA.

http://www.hwinfo.com will identify the manufcturer/model of the Sound Chip.

AC97 is a standard and is not old BlackBeard......................

So all I need to do is identify the manufacturer/model of the Sound Chip and look for the Vista-supported driver on their website??

Yes... An OLD standard.... and I'm trying to point out AGE in this example.... and the name is BlackBILL... please show the proper respect that others on this forum deserve.

You can TRY to locate Vista drivers, but if the board is old (and yours is) and Vista doesn't automatically recognize it in the first place then the chances are overwhelmingly great that your sound will not be supported.

I have Vista Ultimate(64) and overall it has been very good at picking up on some of my older hardware... but of the things it has not picked up on.... I can't find drivers for.

I've had a look on the Intel site and can't find any Vista audio drivers for the 845 chipset, so unless someone knows where you can find some, you can do what blackhill suggested and buy a seperate audio card.
